My one lasting
legacy (so far) at Phantom is the music played after breakfast each morning.
As far as I know, I was the first Program Director to make playing
records after breakfast a regular affair.
The idea came to me because of the dead time when breakfast
winds down. Whereas we had songs from staff members after lunch and
dinner, breakfast had nothing until the announcements started. With
my huge record collection, it seemed a natural.
In 1975, my first summer as the PD, I started the tradition
with a song by the Rascals, "A Beautiful Morning". That song speaks
of the dawning of a wonderful day. "It's just no good if the sun shines
and you're still inside." It was the perfect "morning" song, but that
was really the only song I had planned to play. What should I do on
subsequent mornings? Well, as you will see in the accompanying lists,
in 1975 I was just feeling my way along. Not the most inspiring music
right away. But it grew.
Check out the lists and see if you remember any of these.
